1. Review Your Document/Do Not Sign
Before making your appointment it’s important to review your document(s). Generally, a document is 100% completed prior to a notary appointment. Do not sign the document. The signature must be witnessed by the notary public.
Often notarized documents are legal documents. You may wish to consult an attorney on the contents of the document and to be certain you are satisfied with the document you are signing before your appointment. A notary is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice.
2. Physically Present and Identification
Any witnesses required on your document? Every party who needs to sign the document must be physically present at the appointment time and have a valid photo I.D. (Current/Non-Expired Driver's License, US Military ID, State Issued ID, Green Card (I-551), US Passport)
All parties (including witnesses) will be asked to physically check their photo I.D. prior to the appointment to make sure it is not expired and name on photo I.D. matches name on documents to be notarized. The purpose of notarizing a document is to guarantee the identity of the person(s) signing the document.

3. Special Circumstances
Must be addressed prior to the appointment.

- Person is deaf
- Person(s) non-English speaking
- Document in a foreign language
- Person who signs by mark
- Person with a disability unable to sign
- Person is mentally incapacitated
- Person is in hospital or hospice
- Person is a minor
- Legal name change does not match the name on the valid photo I.D. or document to be notarized
- Do not have/cannot obtain a valid photo I.D.
